We will host a 1/2-day Hercules Dome workshop to update the community on logistics planning, and for coordination of Hercules Dome science. Those planning to submit proposals to be part of the Hercules Dome ice-core ice-analysis team are strongly encouraged to attend. This is expected to be the first of a regular annual PI meeting for Hercules Dome.
The workshop is part of our 4th Annual Ice Core Community meeting, which we launched as the Ice Core Open Science meeting in 2021.
Although Hercules Dome drilling is still a few years away, it is not too early to begin concrete proposal planning. If you are interested in leading or co-leading a proposal to be part of the ice-core-analysis team, please plan to attend. We do expect to include a remote-attendance option.
At this time, NSF is not considering field-based proposals. The relevant program solicitation is NSF23-508, Antarctic Research Not Requiring U.S. Antarctic Program (USAP) Field Support.
The Ice Core Community Meeting dates are now set for May 12-14 in Minneapolis, at the Coffman Memorial Union, University of Minnesota. The Hercules Dome workshop will probably be on Day 2 (May 13).
We will follow up with a finalized date for the Herc Dome workshop, additional information about the process for science-proposal coordination, and more details about the broader Community meeting.
